Ah, the Life...

of the unemployed!

I spent the morning looking though want ads, and filling out an application online.

I then checked the mail. Lo and behold, there was a magazine in a plain black wrapper. I didn't remember ordering anything that would come packaged that way. So, I opened it up and it was the premiere issue of "Party Life" magazine. Basically it is a big PartyPoker advertisement dressed up to look like a lifestyle magazine. Good for a quick skim.

After that I went onto UltimateBet and played on the play money 5/10 limit tables for an hour and tripled my "buy-in". This was the first time I had played at UB in over a year. The interface was much faster and easier to use than I remembered.

Then Mrs. _one took me out to lunch at our favorite Mexican restaurant in Martinsburg. She was driving so I indulged in a classic Margarita (on the rocks - not the Slurpee with alcohol kind).

Well, at some point I will have a job, but for now it is kind of nice to take it easy. If you know of any IT-type jobs in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia, let me know.

In the meantime - Enjoy the Pokery Goodness!

Forcast: Cloud In Your Future

I just got done reading a new poker blog. Well, new to me. He has been blogging since early June. I like his style. He makes me laugh. I am speaking of The Cloud. Go read. It is worth your time and it certainly is no effort. I think if he keeps this up, he will be on quite a few "must read" blog lists.

14.4 Blues

Damn, I hate having to use a 14.4 modem. But, for the next couple of weeks, I am stuck with it.

I did manage to play a couple sessions of .5/1 LH this past Wednesday on Party. I was way to loose in the first session and was down 5 BB. Fortunately, I tightened up and played much better in the second session and finished that session up 13 BB. I really need to play more consistantly. My biggest problem right now is seeing too many flops. I think in the first session and a half I saw about 45% of the flops. I think I want to get that down below about 20% depending on the cards I get.

I am looking for a good place to use my FTP $26 dollar tournament token. Any ideas on which of the tournaments they have give the best overlay/fewest players? I want to at least give myself a semi-decent shot at making the money. I haven't played too many MTTs so it probably would not matter where I put my dead money in.

I think after I get a new PC/laptop, I will start playing a bit more. Until then, it will probably be a session here or there.

Enjoy the Pokery Goodness!

Bits -n- Pieces

Poker News:

The House of Representatives, in what seems to be an election year, grandstand move to get voter support, passed a bill which will make it harder or impossible to play poker online. There are two main parts of the bill. The first deals with the banking side. It would make it illegal for US financial institutions to facilitate money going to or coming from online gambling sites. The second would force ISPs to block online gambling sites.

Fortunately, the Senate is not inclined at this time to take up similar legislation, so the bill will languish for the time being.

Behold the Mighty Power of THE HAMMER

I have messed around with THE HAMMER before, but never like this. In an hour and a half I got THE HAMMER four times and played it three times. The best thing though is I got back into playing at the real money tables (.5/1 LHE heh heh) at Party.

First hammer in late position with 2 limpers ahead of me. I raise (the only way to play'em). Flop comes Q27 rainbow. I raise, turn come 5h, I raise again. The river comes with a third 2. I raise and win the showdown.

Second hammer, I got in middle position. I raised preflop and again on the flop and got 3 limpers to fold to a possible flush. I proudly displayed my Hammer.

The third time I got the hammer, the flop came KdTd7h. Not knowing that at this point I was behind to top 2 pair, I re-raised. Turn is a blank and we raise and re-raise again. Then the river brings me proof of the mighty power of THE HAMMER. The seven of clubs appears out of nowhere. My trips beat his 2 pair.

The last time I got the hammer I was in late position and the pot was raised and re-raised by the two good players at the table at the time. So I did what normal humans do when they get the hammer, I folded quickly.

Overall the session was up 4.75BB. I am still seeing too many flops, but at least near the end of the session, I was a lot more selective in my starters. All in all, not a bad way to get my feet wet again.

Thank you Grubby for the hammer!

Go Forth and Read

Due to the lovely 28.8 modem I am forced to use at the present time, my online play is negligible. Actually it has been downright non-existent the past week and a half.

So, what have I been doing? I've been gearing up for the job search, and reading blogs.

I am constantly amazed and pleased that there are so many good poker blogs out there. (Mine not included) And so many of them I have not yet had the privilege of reading. I am correcting that now. In the next week or so, I will pimp some of the best I have found. Not that they will need it, but pimp I must.

In the meantime, don't wait for the ESPN version. Go read Dr. Pauly, Otis, and DanM as they blog the WSOP now in progress.
