Hello Night Owls

I just played some Play Money 5/10 NL on Stars. I could not get to sleep this evening so I decided to play. At first I wasn't really paying attention. I think it was that I was awake at 3 am, and that the whole table was calling the big blind to see the flop every hand. I also forgot how badly they play at the play money tables. I was down 2 and a half buy-ins and then got a feel for the table. I was more cautious about my starting hands and played the other players more. I am not sure, but I think I do better when there are fewer players at the table. It may just be that I am not totally used to playing as I haven't played regularly in a while.

Oh well, so much for 4:30 am ramblings...

WSOP Begins

I am not even going to try to report results. The best place to find them is Tao of Poker. Written by Dr. Pauly, a man who has forgotten more about writing than I will ever learn.

On the homefront, we are currently visiting my mother-in-law. She is having more computer problems than I am. And being her helpdesk, at this point I am suggesting a clean installation of Windows. Oh boy, more work for me. So much for my "vacation" before local job-hunting. If there are any readers in the Eastern Panhandle of WV who needs an IT/Database jack-of-all-trades, let me know.

I did go onto FTP on Friday and played so Play Money NL. I was up for the longest time, then my Nut Flush was killed by a Full House on the River. Oh well. I got my money in when I had the best of it.

I am slowly getting up to speed on blog reading. I have been away from it for too long. Does this mean there will be blog pimping soon. You bet it does.

As always, Enjoy the Pokery Goodness!

I Hate Modems

The modem on my laptop crapped out last night.

I got the laptop second hand, and it will cost probably in the range of $300 dollars to replace the internal modem.

So I will move on to plan B (cheap bastard that I am) and get an external modem for my laptop. It almost defeats the purpose of having the laptop, but then I am so retro-geek.

I should be back online with that laptop tomorrow.

Enjoy the Pokery Goodness (even if I can't today)!

I'm Not Going to Go There

There are quite a few 'jokes' I could make about this announcement. But I won't. The disturbing thing is that this contest is not about poker in the slightest. It is about looks. If you read the contest rules there is a time set aside for coaching on poker play. Well at least some of the dead money at the WSOP will be nice to look at.

Miss Pokerface: Global Hunt for Poker Beauties

London 1st June
2006

Poker has become a social phenomenon played by millions of
people around the world.

However Poker lacks glamour and the
launch today of the worlds first “Miss Poker Face” seeks the worlds most
beautiful girls who can also handle themselves on the poker
table.

Initially entrants will be broken down into 8 international
territories, UK, Spain, Germany, USA, Sweden, Australia, Denmark and Norway.
Girls who submit their details to http://www.misspokerface.com/ will be short
listed based on looks to play in poker tournaments to find national
winners.

The winner of the UK will be crowned Miss PokerFace UK for
example. Each country winner will win major prizes including entry into leading
poker events and contracts with top modeling agencies.

Once each
national winner is established, a final playoff will establish
MissPokerFace2007.

A spokesperson commented “the response so far to
this project has been phenomenal, not only from potential entrants but also from
companies wishing to become sponsors. We would of course entertain a sponsor but
one which is a global brand”

I don't know what to say. Someone was bound to come up with this sooner or later. I just wish it had been later.

Warning: Poker-Type Content

Greetings blog reader! Actual Poker content today.

In the past 6 months, I have been overwhelmed with requests. These request have come in three forms, requests for link exchanges, requests to review items, and requests to advertise. The only thing I can figure is that the popularity of poker and the upcoming WSOP has made not just mine, but every poker blog that has been around for any length of time a hot commodity. (Regardless of actually content or regularity of posting - See my blog as an example.) I will let you know how I deal with each.

Requests for Link Exchanges:

I have no problem with anyone linking to this blog!!! If you want to link, go right ahead. I generally only link to blogs or sites I visit on a semi-regular basis. If you have a blog and it is not listed, I either am not aware of your blog, or I have not gotten around to linking you. Feel free to send me an email or a comment if you want to be listed.

Requests to Review Items:

If you have something Poker-related that you want me to review, I would be more than happy to do so. Contact me either by email or comment. When I post a review, part of the review will be whether or not the item I am reviewing was provided to me free of charge or not. Of course, whether or not I receive something free of charge, I will give my open, honest opinion.

Requests to Advertise:

First off, I am not openly looking for advertisers (If they find me on their own, as the current 2 have I will consider the offer). I know some bloggers out there have problems with advertising. I do not. As long as the advertising is related to the blog in some way and the blogger is open about their relationship with both the advertiser and the reader I see no problem. None of the advertisers I have or will possibly get in the future will affect the opinions expressed in my posts. If I have a problem with one of the advertiser's sites and/or products you WILL hear about it here. If I lose that advertiser, so be it.

Happy Father's Day

I know it is a little late, but Happy Father's Day to all you Dads out there.

I had such a great day. The little _ones let me sleep in and helped Mrs. _one fix me one of my favorite breakfasts - popovers. I got 2 cards (store-bought) and 2 cards hand-made. In the afternoon, I started updating the poker software on my laptop. After that I took the kids to the pool. My five year old can now float, hold her breath underwater and 'swim' a short distance. My four year old can now jump off the side of the pool into 'deep' three foot water and hold his breath briefly underwater. They grow up so fast!

Of course all the pool fun made them extra sleepy, so I watched part of the 2005 US Poker Championship. I love the comedy. Even when they don't mean it to be. Wish I had some time to go onto Party and see how fishy I have become. Maybe tomorrow.

Yea! I will now be able to catch up on my favorite (and not so favorite) bloggers. It has been so long since I have read any regularly. (Bad mortal_one, Bad)

Until later,

Enjoy the Pokery Goodness!

Week-late Announcement

Sorry, for things beyond my control, I have been unable to post for the last week. And to my one anonymous reader - here is my announcement.

On May 26, 2006 I turned in my resignation in the form of two weeks notice at my job. First, contrary to popular belief at the office, it was totally my decision. Upper management had no idea it was going to happen. I do not want to go into all the things that went into my decision at this time. I am sure they will come up at some point.

Second, I am not turning Pro. Unless it is as professional poker loser. I am nowhere near good enough at this point.

Third: Unfortunately I will probably be updating this blog more often in the days ahead. I know, many of you would be contented to not have to check to see if I have a new post and then see if that post had some actual content.

I will be taking a week or so more off to decompress. I have almost caught up on sleep, but there is still tons of things to do around the house.

So, if you know of anyone who needs a dataminer/reporting expert (MSSQL, PeopleSoft/Oracle, Crystal Reports, Actuate) or a utility IT type person in the Eastern Panhandle of WV, let me know.

More to follow...
